Triquis is an indigenous community of about 25,000 living in the north western mountains of the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. In 2010, Sergio Ramirez, a middle age basketball coach, climbed up the Triquis mountains with a basketball under his arm and a single ambition; To build a basketball and academics program that will empower a generation of kids. The Triquis story of progress, peaceful independence battle and furious determination to succeed has influenced my life forever. I look up to these kids in times of trouble and I remember always their yell to march forward: Skaya!
