I met Lawrence Whiteside, an 85yr old New York native, outside a restaurant early June as he was telling personal tales/stories of the Civil Rights movement in the 60s and how the shoulder held video camera amplified the movement by exposing the rest of America to the dehumanization of black people in the South. Filmed on Juneteenth, Then and Now presents history through his lens; From the harsh realities of a not so distant past, the hard fought triumphs to the cautiously optimistic future.
