Resilience
by Nina Iordanova
Have you ever shown a resilience you didn’t know you had? And I don’t mean the “Wow, I didn’t know I could do that” kind. I mean the “Wow, I didn’t even know anything was happening” kind. It’s what I heard most often during my 6-year (largely unremarkable) acting career. It’s what I heard after shutting down my first company, then my second. At first it sounded like a compliment. Then it began to sound vaguely like an insult. Wait a minute, what did other people think was happening?! Hey man, I’m just living my life. Things work out, things don’t, what does it matter? You still gotta keep moving forward! But resilience is different for all of us. For some, it’s choosing to try new things even after you’ve failed. For others, it’s continuing to put yourself out there even after a string of bad dates. Just because it’s easy for you, doesn’t mean it’s easy for everyone. So here’s to you, and the resilience you didn’t know you had.
